Hi Jeff!

Greetings from the road. Thought I would check into some BBSes after a long pause and found this message area. Thought I would would say hello
to all my fellow HAM radio operators.
Greetings from across the pond!
I'm not doing much since the wife and I are full timing it in our RV. I just didn't have enough space to bring any radios larger than an HT
And the wife would not let me put an APRS unit in the truck. I used to have a D710 in the Pathfinder I use to own but I sold it when we
downsized and it no longer had a place to be installed in.
Still I do break out the HTs every once in a while to see if I can get
any 2m or 70cm activity. I even manage to try and hit a local repeater
if I can find one. Still little to no contacts. JUst to far out for
most.
If you have cellphone reception good enough for decent data transfer speeds, you can be adventurous and cobble yourself together an Allstar node. With
that you can then use your HT on 2m or 70cm and speak to Hams all over the world from whereever you are. Some Allstar bridges also have bridges over to digital networks like DMR, DStar and YSF, opening up even more possibilities. There are loads you can do with your HT these days. Some people say that it's not "ham radio" to use the Internet like this, but hey - if it helps you to make contacts it's good enough in my books.
At any rate, I will check in now and again on this area to see what
going on.
Unfortunately not a lot is happening here, but it's a good idea to post now
and again to stir things up a bit. There are loads of really knowledgeable
Hams monitoring this echo (myself excluded, I'm a noobie) with a breadth of experience, so even if it's mostly quiet it's good to ask questions.

Jan Henkins (M7HNK)
