is to say, very little) Anson Mount in this episode. I need more Pike
and his finely coifed hair. :/

Yes interesting to see what they do with the characters and cast, the
new (soon to be) chief engineer sounds like she has an interesting
back story. I also thought it was interesting in their choice of 'bad
alien race of the series' was flagged to be at the end of the episode.

On that topic... (The bad alien race). That part did irk me a little, given that in the original series they were supposedly "discovered". But going into that discussion could kinda be spoilerish (though that meant you missed the whole last season... and a few episodes of "Enterprise")

Well I thought episode 2 was really quite good, yes it was a courtroom drama but there was enough character development and back story etc. to make it work for me. What did you think?
Aside: Christina Chong is quite a singer and has a single out:
and, as always, it tends to deal with RL issues (past, present, and sometimes future). I enjoyed it as well!

It's been great so far... but it seems like the Captain Pike character keeps taking more of a back seat in some episodes. Not sure how I feel about that.

It's to bring to light the other characters' histories and
development. Allows them a more of a "I am part of the crew, too"
ideal. :)

For some, yes... but for me, Pike is one character that's been around since the beginning, but we know almost nothing about him. Spock and Uhura have been developed in other "universes"... the new characters... yeah, I care... to a point... but Pike is the one I really wanted to know more about.

I think they want to give each character some decent exposure and storyline.
I'm really enjoying the writing and overall development of this show.
Much better than Discovery and other more recent Trek

I thought the Lower Decks crossover was a good one, and although I have not watched many episodes at all of Lower Decks the show did enough to carry both franchises well and got me curious about the animated
series.

I liked Jack Quaid in "The Boys", and it took me a moment to recognize
his voice in Lower Decks. He embodied the animated Boimler well, and I loved the yelp when Spock tells him to "seek cover".
My wife and I just watched that episode last night. I thought it was pretty good.
I actually laughed at this one .. L.D. makes me smirk or chuckle here and there, but to have them LIVE doing what they see themselves doing in the animation was awesome.
I liked the Riker call out and this apparently happened with Jonathon Frakes was on set :)
apparently there's a musical episode coming out, on that count I am not so sure but hey, they are certainly pushing the boundaries a bit with the writing and directions taken this season. But doing it in a respectful way I think to the cannon.

For some reason I didn't recognize it at all. Even when I watched the episode, I wasn't aware that guy was the voice! Weird. I'm usually good

When reading about the Lower Decks / Strange New Worlds crossover
episode, I read that they drew the Lower Decks characters to look (at least somewhat) like their voice actors. That ended up making the crossover episode work fairly well, as it was a live-action episode and the voice actors appeared as themselves.
Can't say I'm loving Star Trek SNW E09... This season is 'fluffy' .....

Yeah, was NOT a fan of E09 either. Should have had more variety to the
music styles, and the Klingon Backstreet Boys should have been left on the
cutting room floor. Or at the very least, not have them raid the Gold
Rangers closet. All that gold lemma was VERY un-Klingon!

I ended up, fast forwarding to the end and benched it, it's supposed to be scifi, and unfortunately it was just disappointing. Feels like the writers have lost the plot.
IMO sci-fi doesn't have to be all serious all the time, and it's good to mix things up a bit sometimes. I think it's good to have some comic relief sometimes. I guess that's why I like The Orville too..

I think the un-Klingonness of it was the whole point, and it made that
one of the best scenes ever. As one of the Klingons said earlier in
the episode, they had faced dishonor for their singing they were made
to do out there.

and KILLJOYS :)
I should try Killjoys again. When I first watched it, it felt like it borrowed a lot from Firefly, and it was Too Soon.

FIREFLY - I liked that one too!
If you are able, watch Will Weaton's READY ROOM where he had the 2 L.D. actors on it .. you learn a lot more of what actually happened and how much stuff was ad-lib.
noo! not a musical episode!

I know I thought the same, but on the whole it was done well.

I thought it was perfectly done - was totally set up for Klingon
opera, not expecting a boy band. I laughed out loud with headphones
on in a dark room by myself.

Actually, that Lower Decks crossover almost made me not watch the show. In
Then... the musical.
I ended up not watching that one after five minutes. I eventually (again,
I required alcohol to get through it.
I'm just going to glare at you angrily until you Google it and tell us
how sorry you are for not ever knowing about it before now.

Very glad I didn't see the end of it. I fell asleep somewhere through
the episode, and I don't think I'll be going back to rewatch it.

Because it was so good?
Ok, in the end, the musical wasn't so bad, and I liked the season cliffhanger enough... but they better keep these episodes few and far between.
