• a1200 Case

From niter3@21:1/199 to All on Mon Dec 29 07:14:05 2025
So after back and forth for the last year, and after making purchases and cancellations after one another. I bought a a1200 case from Amigakit.com.

Obviously I still need a keyboard and to make a decision on what kind of computer goes into it.

Any suggestions what I should do?

    - a1200ng
    - Rasp PI
    - Mini PC
    - etc?

It depend what to you want for you. If Amiga only, go for the A1200ng.
If do you want to run various computers or game consoles, go for Rasp PI.
One Rasp PI4, the PI5 is too much expensive: one N100 mini-PC is the best buy for the money.

And in that case, I already have a spare GMKTec Nuc3 with a n100 processor.

Sounds like I'll need a keyrah in order to use the keyboard with it?

    Nice, thanks!

What are some recommended keyboards to use? I have nothing right now.

This keyboard adapter is for an native A1200 keyboard. You don't have one ? This is more for putting all the electronics (Rasp Pi or mini-PC) inside the Amiga case. You can also eventually build with the case and keyboard an USB one, and connect directly to PC.

No, I do not have an Amiga in any form. The first purchase so far was the case only. I know a1200.net will have a new mechanical keyboard I can purchase along with finding a keyrah or a keyboard adapter/converter.

As for the computer, I'm leaning towards pulling my extra n100 mini computer apart and use that in the case along with a stripped down version of linux.

Issue I'm facing at the moment is finding some mount plates for the back for the following extenders, USB, HDMI, NIC, etc...

Yeah, please do. Now I'm curious.

I'm not the OP, but I can give you an example.

One and a half month's *before* easter, I ordered what was listed as a *"In Stock"* 2.5" Buffered IDE interface for my
A1200. Didn't hear anything for over two weeks, or the order update status change on the website.

I sent a Email and heard nothing, so logged into the website to use the form on there, still didn't hear anything.

It was now 25 Days since payment was made via Paypal, so I put in a dispute with Paypal stating that nothing with my
    order had been performed etc.

Within 24hours a email arrives from amigakit, claiming the following:

    1: Delays due to easter
2: They had to source parts
3: The item had to be built and tested.

Note my bold in the first sentence.. so 1 was bogus, along with the other points.

I was not a first time purchaser from them, and had purchased things over a four or five year period.
This very lack of transparency is now why I will *never* purchase anything from them again.

Retropassion also has a VERY bad rep, and I will *never* purchase anything form him either.

My order says it was with the shipping company. Just waiting for an update to see when it arrives in Canada from the UK...

So hopefully I don't have any issues...

Try being in Australia, one english pound cost's us $2.01AUD, and the euro
is just slightly better at 1 euro = $1.75AUD.

Oh simple. They take your money, then proceed to take an extended amount of time to ship your order, when it arrives it is defective. You follow their procedure for having an issue. They then choose to ignore you. You then arrange a charge back from your bank. All of a sudden you get a response from them. So you send the defective item back. They then "repair" it. They send it back to you. The circuit board is covered in flux as they can't be bothered to clean it after the "repair". In my opinion it shouldn't be repaired as it is brand new. It should be replaced without question.
Anyway there are many people at various amiga clubs that I go to that have had the same abismal service, businesses get treated no better either.
That is just my 2 pence worth.

Well, being just a case. I guess I lucked out.

Now the issue is hoping I get this new a1200 keyboard I ordered today in the next month or two?

I love this rant because it describes just about all business products these days, I don't even know which one you're talking about but its familiar enough to me, I think I've done something like a dozen "chargebacks" in the past 5 years, so tired of it!

I'll start a war, though -- just because you bought something doesn't make you special. It's what you do with it that matters. Nobody is interested in hearing about what you buy. My local linux group became "look what I bought" meetings. flipper zeros, netbooks, notebooks, laptops, and phones. I'm tired of bearded balding men showing off the things they buy. Show me what you do with it, write some code, do some art, for the love of god, do something interesting !!

So, bring up your concerns at a meeting. Reinforce it by show the members what your doing. I've been in a few clubs, even ran one, and I can tell you it's easy to get into a rut, without even realizing it.
