• Mystic polling on a pi

From deon@21:2/116 to All on Mon Nov 17 08:27:34 2025
    Howdy,

Like freq was having issues polling on his Pi, I have another new user with the same issue.

    --------------------- POLL v1.12 A48 2023/01/15 Sun, Nov 16 2025 (loglevel 3) + 16.11.2025 20:48:07 Polling all nodes of session type ALL
    + 16.11.2025 20:48:07 Queued 1 files (896 bytes) for 21:3/100
    + 16.11.2025 20:48:07 1-Polling 21:3/100 on slot 1 via BINKP
    + 16.11.2025 20:48:07 1-DEBUG ConnectMode=0
    + 16.11.2025 20:48:07 1-Connecting to n3.z21.bbs.dege.au on port 24554
    + 16.11.2025 20:48:15 Polled 1 systems

This is the extent of their log - and there is no connection attempt made.

Any tips for carlos and freq on this?

Otherwise maybe they should use binkd?

This is what my log shows when I poll my hub:

    Nov 16 00:29:03 1-Polling 21:2/100 on slot 1 via BINKP
    Nov 16 00:29:03 1-Connecting to error404bbs.ddns.net on port 24555

I'm wondering if the address they are connecting to could be the problem (n3.z21.bbs.dege.au)? Only a guess.

    Howdy,

I'm wondering if the address they are connecting to could be the problem (n3.z21.bbs.dege.au)? Only a guess.

I dont think so, that's what everybody else uses:

    $ host n3.z21.bbs.dege.au
n3.z21.bbs.dege.au is an alias for clrghouz.bbs.dege.au.
clrghouz.bbs.dege.au is an alias for ip4.bbs.dege.au.
    ip4.bbs.dege.au has address 139.99.135.199

I also change the address to ip:139.99.135.199, same result.

Things that don't work on Raspberry Pi:
-- FTP server. Have connection but no DIRs listing.
-- SMTP client. No sending of internet emails.
-- No import of FILE.ID.DIZ file on LHA archives. No good for Amiga files.
-- Don't know if my BINKP server is working, when i telnet to my ip and port i got nothing on screen. Don't know if this is normal ?

... I put a dollar in one of those change machines. Nothing changed.

There is probably about 3 stages here:

mystic -cfg > Networking > Echomail Addresses
    - Here you have to make sure you have your information correct.

mystic -cfg > Networking > Echomail Nodes
    - Here you have to make sure you have your uplink's information correct, and "Active" set to yes.

mystic -cfg > Editors > Message Base Editor > (any echo linked to your uplink)
    - Here you have to make sure you have the proper "Echo Tag" set, ACS levels set properly, including group (s20g<group#>), your "Net Address" set, and "Origin" line set.

After that, a 'mis poll (uplink address)' should work. If it doesn't, please post what your logs say here.

Things that don't work on Raspberry Pi:

-- FTP server. Have connection but no DIRs listing.

mystic -cfg > Servers > FTP

    - Obviously if you can connect, you already have it running. Try using "Passive Mode = Yes", and restart MIS.

mystic -cfg > Configuration > File Base Settings > Download via FTP = Yes

mystic -cfg > Editors > File Base Editor
    - Make sure "FTP ACS" is set to the proper access level and group (s20z<group#>).

-- SMTP client. No sending of internet emails.

mystic -cfg > Servers > General Options > SMTP

    - Make sure the SMTP section is configured properly. If your ISP blocks port 25 (a lot of them do), you may have to try a different port.

Maybe others will chime in here, but this part of the code, as well as FTP, may not be 100% complete, either. I don't remember, it's been about 6 months since public development stopped.

-- No import of FILE.ID.DIZ file on LHA archives. No good for Amiga files.

    - mystic -cfg > Editors > Archive Editor > LHA

I have two listings for LHA here, one of them is for Linux, and the other is for Windows. The one for Windows uses 7zip, so you would need to install 7zip if your BBS is on Windows.

I had thought you mentioned running on a Pi4, though. So you would actually need the lha package installed on your system in order to use it (on my system, the package name is "lhasa"), but your OS may be different.

-- Don't know if my BINKP server is working, when i telnet to my
ip and port i got nothing on screen. Don't know if this is normal ?

If it connects and doesn't display anything, then yes, I believe it's normal for Mystic. I'm guessing Mystic waits for some kind of handshake, and if it doesn't get it, it doesn't display anything.

Are you posting from a different BBS? This is why I mentioned 7zip on Windows, FYI.. but I remember reading your previous message about a Pi4.

Either way, hope some of this (if any) helped. Would probably need more detailed information from your config to be more specific as to where (if any) anything is setup wrong, or if one or more of the services themselves are incomplete.

    Regards,
    Nick

No, it's really a bug in Mystic on Raspberry Pi. It seen to be server related. At first, i beliaved it was OS fault. But i tested with Ubuntu and Debian Trixie. Same results. So now i use the external "Binkd" server//client to Poll the echomail. A big difficult to configure but seen to work (at last the client). For netmail, i don't know if the BINKP mystic server is working.

The rest were pretty much answered by someone else. The SMTP client is not like Synchronets where you can send emails in and out of Mystic, it is set up so you can download your email using a front end like Outlook. Like someone else said port 25 is blocked by most carriers, I use 2500 and 1100 for pop3.. Works great for me getting my BBS email on my phone. If it is a new user I can then if I want login in to my config and up their access if they didn't pass through the email check of their email address they gave. Hope that helps a little bit..
