ENiGMA 1/2 0.6.0-beta can run Amiga BBS door games natively, with no
external emulator and no Amiga hardware. A small Amiga emulator (vAmiga
Core, compiled to WebAssembly) is embedded in the BBS itself. Each
caller who enters an Amiga door gets their own emulated Amiga, booted
from a cached snapshot in well under a second.
Supported door types:
- AmiExpress XIM doors (AEDoor.library)
- AmiExpress ARexx (AIM) doors
- Paragon / MAX's BBS DoorControl doors
- C-Net Amiga ARexx pfiles
- Plain CLI (stdio) doors
Since no Amiga BBS ever used PC-style drop files, ENiGMA impersonates
the host BBS instead: the door asks the "BBS" for the caller's name,
time left, security level and so on, and gets ENiGMA's answers. Output
is translated from the Amiga console (Latin-1, Topaz font) to the
caller's terminal; CP437-drawn doors work too.
What runs today, among others: DreamSweeper, Wallhall, Bulls, The
Quest, KickBoxing, The Death Game, Hacker, Battle Grounds, Global War,
Citadel Space Empire, DeepSpace, Master Space Empire, The Land of VEX,
Sector Wars II, AndroFight, Millennium, Paragon Chess, Bad Libs, Gold
Mine, CRAPS, Wheel of Fortune, Empire, Horses, Guts, and a few more.
Door data persists between calls: the door image is the emulator's
disk, so scores and player files are written as the game writes them.
ROMs: the AROS Kickstart replacement ships with the package, so an
installation needs nothing else. Doors that insist on the real thing
can use your own Kickstart 3.1 ROM; ARexx doors need the ARexx files
from a Workbench 3.1 disk you own. The docs list the exact files and
checksums.
Building a door image takes one command:
./oputil.js amiga-door create mydoor.hdf ~/doors/DreamSweeper
and a door entry in your menu looks like any other door module, with
the image path, the door's path inside it and its type.

Thanks to Dirk Hoffmann for vAmiga and for merging the serial-port
changes this needed, and to the AROS team for taking the filesystem
fix we ran into along the way.
If you have an Amiga door that does not run, or one you would like to
see supported, let me know: the door catalogue is growing!
