Third party downloads, of course, do entail more risk than getting from the original site, but sometimes you gotta do what ya gotta do.
I just performed a quick search, and on page one of Google, right after the various Microsoft results, was a link to Softpedia.com and Visual Studio Express 2012.
Derp, yeah, you're right; I'll check that out now that I've got security on my virtual machine that isn't phoning home. Heh. I did try pirate bay but didn't give any of the isos or archives that I turned up on there a shot primarily because of the amount of malware floating around on most of those torrents, at least when the content is executable.
God I've had a really derpy few days here. The stress in this
place, and the tranqs, no doubt, are really dulling the crap out of me
