I've released a new version of the AI-WX Weather Door today. If you are
not familiar with AI-WX it's a door that displays weather radar in ANSI
and Sixel, weather maps and graphs for weather stations around the
globe. The new 1.5 version has 15 additional Sixel weather maps plus a couple of bug fixes. The door comes in several builds, there is a
version for Win 32, Win 64, Linux 64, Linux Arm 64 and Linux Arm 32. For nostalgic purposes, the door is released as shareware and is on sale for
a limited time for $4.99 if you put in the coupon code FALL. That's less than the price of a fancy cup of coffee ;-). All updates are always free
to registered users.
Hey folks,

Is there a separate update package for registered users, or are we just following the "initial install" section, overwriting everything and reconfiguring the .ini file? Or are we able to just copy over the new executable? Or.... I guess some "upgrade" instructions would be nice, if there's an easier way than to overwrite and reconfigure..
Either way, thanks for the update and info!
Regards,
Nick

AI-WX can be downloaded from my support BBS at
firesidebbs.com:23231 (telnet) in the Lone Wolf Software file
area. It can also be downloaded and registered (remember coupon
code FALL) with a web browser at firesidebbs.com. Registration
allows me to justify all the time spent coding it to my wife
(see honey, I made a whopping $9.98 last month, actually less
than that after PayPal get's it's cut). I hope you check it out
and like what you see.

I downloaded it and updated from my previous version. I've noticed that when using the live radar sixel feature, I can't seem to pause or exit out.. It's like it's stuck in an infinite loop, and I had to kill the process on my BBS machine in order to exit out.

Hmmm, that is strange because none of the radar code changed from the last version. Do you have your terminal's baud rate set to something slow?

No, I was connected to my BBS via RLogin with no restrictions on baud rate.

There is a new version 1.6 available on my BBS at firesidebbs.com:23231 or on the website at https://firesidebbs.com. See if that solves your issue. Also you may try deleting all of your old files (except your lwsdoor.ini file) and see if that helps. This version has a better menu system and even more SIXEL weather maps.

I downloaded 1.6 and set it up, but it has the same issue; I can't quit out of the sixel refresh loop without killing the process.
Also, one thing I've noticed since the first version I've tried: For the Linux version, the wxdoor binary isn't marked executable, so after extracting a new version, I have to remember to chmod ugo+x wxdoor.

That security is not set on purpose, the install doc states to chmod +x wxdoor

I've noticed that zip on Linux preserves execution permissions for files, so I just thought it was odd to have to apply +x permissions after unzipping it. What do you mean by "that security is not set on purpose"?
It's not set on purpose because the app is compiled and zipped on a Windows 11 machine. I use Visual Studio 2022 to create the Linux versions of the app, and VS 2022 only runs on Windows. So the app is never on a Linux machine until you unzip it on yours. Does that make sense?

Heheh, can't update the weather app due to bad weather ;).
