PS: What a pitty that skiff.com was bought by Notion. It was a really good service with lots of features, domains and aliases for a competitive
price. And it was encrypted to its core. The whole Skiff service was build with complete encryption in mind. They could not resist the buy offer. Too bad. I was using their free tier for as long as it was available.

Never hear of skiff. How long were they around before selling
    out?

here are some snippets from their wikipedia page: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Skiff_(email_service)

"Skiff was an email service startup company and collaboration tool, that provided privacy-friendly end-to-end encrypted Email and Cloud services.
    ..
Skiff launched in 2021 and was developed in San Francisco, California.
In November 2023, 17 months after launch, it reached almost 2 million users. Skiff was acquired by Notion on 9 February 2024. Users had six months to migrate their data before the closure of the services. The service mostly shut down on 9 August 2024 with email forwarding remaining active until 9 February 2025."

I hadn't thought about the privacy issues a whole lot until recently.
I've thought about finding another email service provider, though I do like the Gmail interface (and its use of labeling emails), and I'm not sure yet if another email service provides that type of functionality.

Proton mail is the best I think, ergonomic, full of functionalities, and full PRIVACY. It do Labeling! :0)

I have heard, and am not sure it's actually true, that email coming from
a Proton address is sometimes blocked by some email servers, as it's seen
    as potentially "shady".

I'd actually like to know if that's really true.

No, I don4 t think so.. from my concern: I never had problems, and I am on Proton mail since early 2015. I think it is the contrary now: Proton is considered as a very secure email. Tools to fight spam are really good on it. Including Proton Sentinel and Dark Web Monitory.
